The Medical School hosted a lecture by Prof Hilliard Jason, MD, EdD, Clinical Professor of Family Medicine at the University of Colorado School of Medicine, titled ‘Helping your students learn to learn: This may be your most important task as an educator.’

Prof Jason stressed that medical educators should:

Think through and refine their understandings of the essential characteristics required for being “mature learners”.

Constructively critique their own and their colleagues’ current instructional practices, identifying which practices may help or hinder the process of fostering optimal learning approaches among those they are seeking to educate and

Make plans for modifying their current instructional approaches, as needed, to enhance the likelihood that they will be helping, not hindering, their learners’ development as “mature learners”
