The Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology has been very active in organising workshops throughout the academic year in collaboration with the Makarios Children’s Hospital, the Cyprus Gynaecological Society, the Cyprus Society of Perinatal Medicine and the Cyprus Nurses and Midwives Association.   Founding Chair of the Department Professor Sir Sabaratnam Arulkumaran together with Curriculum lead for OBGYN, Prof Kalakoutis, and Clinical Lead at Makarios Hospital, Dr Argyrides, have been the driving force behind these workshops, which have attracted a good number of health professionals as well as medical students throughout the year.  Several students had the opportunity to present their research during the workshops:  Aria Antoniadou, Vanessa Nassour and Adrian Hubraq presented their study on ‘Abnormal cardiotocography and caesarean section rate ’, whereas Ilianna Armata and Stephanie Brown presented their study on ‘The Caesarean rate in Cyprus: A retrospective analysis.’   Both presentations prompted further discussion as to how the caesarean section rate can be reduced.

Four workshops took place during the year:

  1. Cardiotocography – October 26, 2016
  2. Diabetes during pregnancy – December 15, 2016
  3. Intrapartum fetal surveillance – February 18, 2017
  4. Best practices during the intrapartum period – March 27, 2017
