Executive Dean Professor Andreas Charalambous and Associate Dean of Academic Affairs and MBBS Course Director Dr Adonis Ioannides took part in the St George’s Graduation Ceremony held at the Barbican in London on July 20, 2017.  During the ceremony London’s Mayor, Mr Sadiq Khan, was granted an Honorary Fellowship for his support for healthcare and higher education in London.

Other honorary Fellowships awarded at the ceremony were for two former members of staff who have also contributed to the University of Nicosia Medical School :

Professor Peter Kopelman, former Principal of St George’s, University of London, who has made a distinguished contribution to research in the fields of obesity and diabetes. Professor Kopelman was instrumental in the creation of the UNic Medical School, whose first offering was the SGUL graduate-entry 4-Year Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery programme.

 

Professor Sean Hilton. His career in healthcare began at St George’s where he trained as a doctor in 1974, returning in 1987 as a part-time Senior Lecturer. He went on to work in a range of roles at St George’s including Professor and Head of the Department of General Practice and Primary Care, Dean of Undergraduate Education, and Vice Principal (Teaching and Learning), before retiring in July 2012.  At UNic Medical School Professor Hilton held the positions of Dean of Clinical Studies and Director of the Centre of Primary Care and Population Health.
