The Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology in collaboration with the Makarios Children’s Hospital, the Cyprus Gynaecological Society, the Cyprus Society of Perinatal Medicine and the Cyprus Nurses’ and Midwives’ Association organised two clinical seminars in which several medical students presented and participated.

On Thursday, 2 November, a clinical seminar on ‘Liver disease in pregnancy and lactation’ was attended by 14 Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, 12 midwives and 13 medical students.  During the workshop four medical students had the opportunity to present ‘A retrospective analysis on liver disease in pregnancy,’ students Victoria Mumford, Sarah Zouggari, Laamia Sabha and Harry Bhalla.

On Thursday, 11 January, the Department of OBGYN organised a clinical seminar on ‘Intrauterine growth restriction.’  It was attended by 16 Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, 5 neonatologists, 6 midwives and 12 medical students.  Medical students Ralph Hatab, Arun Bhalla, Tamara Hossn, Samantha El Warrak and Noor Shami were given the opportunity to present the results of their retrospective study on ‘Pre-eclampsia and intrauterine growth restriction.’

The Founding Chair of the Department Professor Sir Sabaratnam Arulkumaran, together with the Curriculum Lead for OBGYN, Prof Kalakoutis, and the Clinical Lead at Makarios Hospital, Dr Argyrides, have been the driving force behind these activities.
