The cervical screening programme, which the Medical School and the Business Professional Women, Cyprus, initiated last month, has so far examined 90 women from the remote regions of Larnaca and Limassol.
On Sunday 11 March, it was the turn of 28 more women to visit the Pachna Health Centre in the Limassol region for a free PAP test. Ten volunteers comprising Medical School doctors, staff and students were on site from 10am to 1pm to receive and examine the women.
In parallel to the screening programme, the Medical School in collaboration with the Ministry of Health is running a pilot research study concerning women’s health and wellbeing entitled ‘The Cyprus Preconception Health Initiative’. Drs Behrooz Behbod and Panayiota Andreou on behalf of the Medical School, and Dr Mary Avraamidou on behalf of the Ministry of Health are leading the study. Several Medical School students are also contributing by helping with the questionnaires and the collection of data.
