The Obstetrics and Gynaecology Department in collaboration with the Cyprus OBSGYN Society, the Cyprus Perinatal Society and the Cyprus Nurses and Midwives Association organised two events last spring: The Clinical Seminar on Preterm Prelabour Rupture of Membranes (PPROM) and the Masterclass in CTG and Hands on workshop in Emergency Obstetrics.  Both events took place at the Makarios Hospital in Nicosia and were planned by Professor Sir Sabaratnam Arulkumaran, Dr Savvas Argyrides and Professor Gabriel Kalakoutis.

The Clinical Seminar on PPROM took place on March 15 and was attended by 56 health professionals and medical students.  Topics included novel techniques in diagnosis, neonatal complications and management. Medical students were given the opportunity to present a retrospective analysis of PPROM in Cyprus.

The Masterclass in Cardiotocography (CTG) and Hands-on workshop in Emergency Obstetrics was delivered on May 5 to honour the International Midwifery day.  Sixty-eight health professionals attended the masterclass.  The morning sessions included interpretation, pathophysiology and case presentations of CTG traces followed by a hands-on workshop on shoulder dystocia, postpartum haemorrhage management, operative delivery techniques and perineal tear suturing techniques.
