On the evening of Thursday 31 May, five 2nd year MBBS students gave a public presentation on rheumatic diseases.

The five talks were delivered as part of the Student Selected Component T-year (SSCT) projects. Topics included rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, spondyloarthropathies, lupus and osteoporosis.

These ‘niche’ projects gave the students the opportunity to prepare a talk and to deliver it to a non-medical audience in lay terms – a skill that doctors are required to exercise throughout their careers. The students were assessed on the content of their talks as well as on their presentation skills.

The event, which was organised and moderated by Clinical Professor Joseph Joseph, was a success.  Among the audience were MBBS students as well as Medical School faculty and members of the public.  It took place at The Boulevard Club in Nicosia and was supported by Rotaract and Rotary clubs.  This is the second year in succession that the event has taken place.
