Medical School Careers Office Adviser, Sue Chrysostomou, has recently visited the Medical School’s two North American clinical sites: the University of Maryland Baltimore Washington Medical Center and Swedish Covenant Hospital in Chicago in order to assist MBBS Penultimate and Final year students with their postgraduate application process and to ensure that they are on track for their career aspirations.

This new initiative by the Careers Office of visiting our students on location and of offering individual follow-up sessions was run as a pilot and proved to be a success. As a result, these visits will be planned on an annual basis and will also expand to cover the School’s other international clinical sites: Sheba Medical Center in Tel Hashomer, in Israel, and Barnsley Hospital in the United Kingdom. Medical students who remain in Cyprus for their clinical years can make an appointment with the Careers Office staff all year round.

The Careers Office of the Medical School supports medical students from the beginning of their training. Following orientation, the Careers Office staff schedule individual meetings with all new students to review postgraduate medical education training options, and to plan career pathways. In the year preceding their clinical placements, students receive presentations on postgraduate training programmes, which provide all the information required for submitting a successful application for postgraduate training and for obtaining employment following graduation.
