Clinical Professor Vassilis Hadjianastassiou delivered the keynote speech at The English School Graduation Ceremony 2019 in Nicosia, Cyprus. Professor Hadjianastassiou went back to the High School from which he graduated 30 years ago to give an inspiring speech to the graduates of the School.

Professor Aleksandar Jovanovic is the co-author of three papers:


Associate Professor Costas Constantinou is one of the authors of the article “A critical review and development of a conceptual model of exclusion from social relations for older people” published in European Journal of Ageing, Published First Online 20 February 2019.

He is also the second author of the article “The role of nurses and the facilitators and barriers in diabetes care: a mixed methods systematic review” published in Behavioural Sciences, Volume 9, Issue 6.

Dr Constantinou participated in an Erasmus faculty mobility programme at the University of Copenhagen, to exchange best practices and formulate collaborations in the area of cultural competence in medical curricula and medical practice.

In addition, Dr Costas Constantinou’s PhD student Monica Nikitara of the Nursing Department of the University of Nicosia successfully passed her PhD viva before a panel of external examiners. Monica Nikitara’s PhD research is entitled “Type 1 Diabetes inpatient care provided by non-specialised nurses: An Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis”.


Associate Professor Dimitrios Kanakis has recently been appointed to the editorial boards of: Clinical Neuroscience and Neurological Research International Journal, ACTA SCIENTIFIC, Journal of Cancer Sciences and Oncology Researches, and Journal of Ophthalmological Sciences, as well as to the Review Board of Pathology, the Journal of the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia (RCPA) .


Assistant Professor Nicoletta Nicolaou is one of the authors of the paper Extendable Hybrid approach to detect conscious states in a CLIS patient using machine learning accepted for presentation at the 10th Eurosim Congress 2019, La Rioja, Logroño, Spain, 1-5 July 2019.

Clinical Assistant Professor Spyros Papacharalambous took part in a Round Table on Salivary Gland Disorders at the 39th Medical Congress of the Limassol Medical Association, held on 6 -7 April 2019 in Limassol.

In addition Dr Papacharalambous was an Invited Lecturer at the 24th Balkan Stomatological Society Congress, held on 9-11 May 2019 in Tirana, where he presented Aesthetic Considerations in Maxillofacial Surgery.


Clinical Assistant Professor Andreas Prokopiou presented his paper Is Old Age an Ethical Problem? at the 1st Mediterranean Conference of Anti-Ageing Medicine organised by the European Society of Preventive, Regenerative and Anti-Ageing Medicine (ESAAM) in collaboration with the Cyprus National Gerontology Centre in Larnaca, Cyprus on 13-14 April 2019.

Dr Neophytos Stylianou is  one of the authors of the paper “An open source decision support system for facility location analysis” published in ScienceDirect, Volume 125, October 2019, 113116

Dr Stylianou has recently been appointed as a country representative and member of the management committee for the Cost action CA18118.
