The University of Nicosia Medical School is participating in the project ‘Curriculum Development using VR technology to enhance empathetic communication skills in future health care professionals’ (EmpathyInHealth) which is funded by the Erasmus+ programme (KA203 Strategic Partnerships for higher education).

The main aim of EmpathyInHealth is to develop a curriculum for empathetic skills development in healthcare practitioners and home carers based on up to date evidence and cutting-edge technology tools. The partners have written scenarios that have been developed into VR videos, educational videos and will be used for role play (Intellectual Output IO4).

On February 26, 2022, the researchers piloted the second day (Work Area 2) of the 3 day training with 4  students of the Doctor of Medicine programme (Intellectual Output IO3). The day involved a presentation on the theoretical background for patient centredness, role plays and other interactive exercises. The students also had the opportunity to practise their empathy skills with four Virtual Reality (VR) scenarios developed by the partners of the Consortium.
