Medical students and ophthalmic trainees competed for the Alistair Fielder Prize in Ophthalmology.

More than 30 University of Nicosia Medical students attended this year’s International Pantheo Congress in Ophthalmology, with many of them participating with presentations and posters.  The Congress took place in Limassol on 9-10 April 2022 and was organised by the Pantheo Eye Center under the auspices of the Cyprus Ophthalmological Society and in conjunction with the Midland Ophthalmological Society, UK, and the University of Nicosia Medical School.

Medical students and ophthalmic trainees competed for the Alistair Fielder Prize in Ophthalmology.  The prize went to two of our UNIC medical students, MD5 student Aline Derlagen and MBBS T-year student Brian Vinh for their presentation ‘Under pressure!: a curious case of idiopathic pulmonary hypertension and secondary open angle glaucoma.’

The 2-day Congress included the University of Nicosia Medical School Keynote Lecture which was delivered by Professor Mark Rosenblatt, Executive Dean and Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Illinois College of Medicine in Chicago. The topic of his presentation was ‘Corneal nerves: Roles in ocular health and disease.
