Health Throughout the Life Course

From 16 to 20 May 2022, the European Public Health Association (EUPHA) and the University of Nicosia Medical School are celebrating European Public Health Week. UNIC Medical School is participating in the following activities which demonstrate how members of varied sectors of our community are working towards “Health Throughout the Life Course”.

FREE OVERWEIGHT & OBESITY  SCREENING

You are invited to drop in for a free overweight and obesity screening and education activity.  This is an interprofessional event and is being organized by the UNIC Pharmacy Programme in collaboration with the UNIC Medical School, the UNIC Medical Centre, and the UNIC Nutrition and Dietetics Programme.

ROUTINE VACCINATIONS FOR ADULTS

Online presentations in Greek and English by Dr Despo Ierodiakonou, Department of Primary Care and Population Health, UNIC Medical School and Dr Christos Michael, Clinical Assistant Professor, UNIC Medical School and Personal Doctor, UNIC Medical Centre.  The presentations will provide information about vaccinations that are available for adults, including which vaccines adults should have at which age and what the vaccines are for (e.g., what is shingles and at what age should you have the vaccination?)

SMALL THINGS COUNT

All students, staff, faculty and community members are invited to drop in at this FREE fair which will be held at the outdoor open amphitheater of the University of Nicosia main campus (46 Makedonitissas Avenue, Nicosia 2417).  The fair includes activities about climate change along with its impact on health, and ideas about small things that can be done to make an impact.  If you want to help protect the environment by recycling any PMD, paper, old batteries, conventional lightbulbs (not LED) or electronic equipment, you can bring them to dispose of in the designated recycle bins at the fair!

This fair is a collaboration of UNIC Medical School and Student Services with the UNIC School of Sciences and Engineering and Marine & Carbon Lab. It will have in attendance medical student organizations, including the Hellenic and Cypriot Medical Students and Friends Club and the Field, Emergency and Wilderness Medicine Society, NGOs including Terra Cypria, 300K Trees in Nicosia, and Cans for Kids.  Supported by Engomi Municipality.

COFFEEOLOGY will be providing free coffee (13:00-16:00 while supplies last) to those who will BRING THEIR OWN REUSABLE CUP at the fair!

OPTIMIZING INTERPROFESSIONAL INTERACTIONS FOR PATIENT AND COMMUNITY CARE

You are invited to an online panel discussion where panelists will bring forth their experiences and insights as to the challenges and opportunities in interprofessional interactions in health while discussing how to work toward a resilient system by building the capacity of its interprofessional work-ready workforce.

The conversation will highlight how these interactions can impact (positively or negatively ) our patients, community, health workers and systems and suggest how to educate our future workers to optimize interprofessional work.
