Raoul Hecker is an Associate Professor at the University of Nicosia Medical School.
Dr Hecker qualified as a Medical Doctor (Dr. med. with honors) at the Johannes Gutenberg-University of Mainz (Germany) in 2003 and is a Board-certified specialist for public health and occupational medicine. He also holds three Master degrees, in: (i) law (LL.M.; Institute for Law and Finance, Goethe University, Germany); (ii) business administration (MBA; INSEAD, Singapore and France); and (iii) public health (MPH; Leuphana University, Germany). He has been an Associate Lecturer for Medicine at the Johannes Gutenberg-University in Mainz, and a consultant for The Joint Commission, a US-based non-profit organization that aims to improve quality and patient safety in health care. Dr. Hecker worked several years in the private sector, heading the international business development function of a major private hospital chain. In this capacity he investigated healthcare systems worldwide, including developing countries, to inform strategic investment decisions.
His research interests focus on public health, public policy, international healthcare management / finance, and digitalization in healthcare.
