Vassilis Hadjianastassiou is Clinical Professor of Surgery at the University of Nicosia Medical School.

Prof Hadjianastassiou graduated (BMBCh (Oxon)) from the Medical School of the University of Oxford, where he also completed his doctoral thesis (DM (Oxon)) in abdominal aortic aneurysms. He holds the specialties of General Surgery (FRCS (Gen)), Vascular Surgery (FEBS (Vasc)) and Transplant (Kidney, Pancreas) Surgery (FEBS (Transplant)), after completing Specialist Surgical Training (CCT) at the Oxford and London Deaneries.

His interests cover the areas of Carotid and peripheral arterial disease and laparoscopic abdominal surgery. Among the innovations he introduced in Cyprus for the first time are: carotid endarterectomy under local anaesthesia, fenestrated endovascular abdominal aortic aneurysm repair, laparoscopic nephrectomy for living kidney donors, simultaneous pancreas and kidney transplantation, and kidney transplant from an incompatible blood group.
