About Us

Welcome to the University Primary Care Centre, the first of its kind in Cyprus. The Centre operates under the Cyprus National Health Care System (Gesy).

The Centre serves the primary health care needs of the University of Nicosia community and the local population. It is a model primary care centre providing high quality services based on the UK system of a comprehensive, holistic and evidence-based approach to primary care practice. The Centre also serves as a training ground for the Medical School’s programmes.

Multidisciplinary Team

The multidisciplinary primary care team includes five general practitioners, one nurse, and two administrators.

Doctors

Dr Anastasis Sioftanos, MBBS, BSc Physiology (UCL London), MRCGP, Dip Diab (Cardiff University), Master in Echocardiography (Imperial College London)

Dr Sioftanos is the Director of the University Primary Care Centre and Clinical Assistant Professor of General Practice at the University of Nicosia Medical School.  He has been working in the UK’s NHS since 2003, and as a GP in London since 2010.  Dr Sioftanos is a Member of the UK Royal College of General Practitioners and he has a special interest in diabetes and in cardiology. 

Dr Christos Michael, MBBS, BSc Immunology (UCL London), MRCGP, DipDerm (Cardiff), DRCOG

Dr Michael is a Clinical Assistant Professor of General Practice at the University of Nicosia Medical School.  He has been working in the UK NHS since 2011, and in London as a General Practitioner since 2016. Dr Michael was a Clinical Supervisor for Imperial Medical School community placements.  He is a Member of the UK Royal College of General Practitioners and has a special interest in dermatology.  

Dr Emanuella Georgiou, MBBS, BSc Pharmacology (UCL London), FSRH, MRCGP, Dip Der (Cardiff University)

Dr Georgiou is a Clinical Assistant Professor of General Practice at the University of Nicosia Medical School.   She has been working in the UK’s NHS since 2003, and as a GP since 2010.  Dr Georgiou is a Member of the UK Royal College of General Practitioners and she has a special interest in dermatology and in family planning.   

Prof Evagoras Nicolaides, BSc(Hons) Physiology (University of Birmingham), BA, MB BCH BAO (Hons), MA (Trinity College, University of Dublin), MRCP (UK), FRCP (London), FESC

Dr  Evagoras Nicolaides is the Director of Postgraduate General Medicine and Professor of Postgraduate Medicine at the University of Nicosia Medical School. A Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of London, he formerly served as Director of the Cardiology Department and Medical Director of Nicosia General Hospital. He has also served as the first Chairman of the Cyprus Medical Education Council.

Dr George Athanasiou, MD (Charles University Prague), MSc (Open University Cyprus), AvME (King’s College London)

Dr George Athanasiou is a Clinical Assistant Professor of General Practice and Head of Occupational Health Services at the University of Nicosia Medical School.  He served for eight years in the A&E Department of the Larnaca General Hospital.  His research focuses on primary healthcare management and quality improvement.   He is interested in Aviation Medicine, where he is active in the medical certification of flying personnel. His interests also include Emergency and Major Disaster Management.
