The Student Service Centre (SSC) has organised the following activities/events from January to June 2020.

JANUARY ACTIVITIES

The New Year kicked off with a free Face Yoga session organised for Medical School students. The class took place on Thursday 23 January at Kundalini Yoga Centre where students had the opportunity to learn Face Yoga exercises for stimulating face muscles, tightening the skin and reducing signs of ageing. On Saturday 25 January Medical School students enjoyed a tour-guided visit to the Centre of Visual Arts & Research (CVAR) in Nicosia followed by drinks and snacks at Balthazar café. On Thursday 30 January the SSC invited students to Kykkos Bowling for a free bowling game.

FEBRUARY ACTIVITIES

A basketball tournament in collaboration with Scalpels Basketball Club took place on Sunday 2 February at Ayios Dometios Sports Centre. During the week of the tournament, raffle tickets were available for sale. The amount of 118 euros was raised from both the tournament registrations and raffle tickets. The money was donated to the Cyprus Paraplegics Association. The winners of the raffle received a 10-euro voucher for Coffee Island and the winners of the tournament received a 20-euro voucher for Sports Direct and a free coffee voucher. A hip-hop dance class was also organised on Wednesday 12 February, while on Tuesday 18 February students had the opportunity to join an indoor rock-climbing session. On Tuesday 25 February, a Bollywood movie night was organised in collaboration with the South Asian Culture Society Club. During the week of the event, raffle tickets were also available for sale. All proceeds will be donated to B.O.C. Oncology Centre. The winners of the raffle received a 25-euro voucher for The East Asian Restaurant and coffee vouchers for Wayne’s Coffee.

APRIL ACTIVITIES

As all events and activities were suspended or postponed from early March due to COVID-19, the Student Services team introduced online events for our students. On Saturday 11 April an online Jack Box game was organised in collaboration with the Chess & Games Club. The first three winners received Amazon vouchers of 20 euros each.

Online Yoga and Pilates classes via Zoom, with Professional Instructor Maria Kyprianides from Aura Studio Cyprus, were organised during the month of April. The classes were opened to our students, staff and faculty.

Furthermore, during the month of April, an online cooking competition was announced, ‘The International Food Festival from home’.  A separate MedNews story is devoted to this competition.

MAY ACTIVITIES

On Friday 29 May, the Wellness Club in collaboration with SSC organised the first online drawing event. Students learned the basics of drawing the anatomy of the heart and submitted their drawings with the chance to win an Amazon voucher.

VISA RENEWALS AND ACCOMMODATION

We would like to remind all non-EU students that visa renewals will soon be processed and further details will be communicated via email. Please be reminded that we will be assisting those of you who need help with your accommodation.

REOPENING OF AIRPORTS

Further to the COVID-19 restrictions that have been imposed, please note that Cyprus has already reopened its airports. Please refer to the communication sent to you on Tuesday 9 June.
