Since the opening in September 2019, our Medical Centre has been evolving by offering a more diverse range of services.

With the focus on contributing to the local community, under the General Healthcare System (GESY), and to the University of Nicosia (UNIC) community, the Centre, apart from the five personal doctors, employs two UK trained cardiologists: Dr Ilias Koutsogeorgis, resident, and Dr Eleftherios Nicolaides, visiting.  The two cardiologists are supported by an in-house full cardiology lab including a treadmill, a 24hr ECG and BP monitoring, and an echocardiogram.

In addition, our team of doctors include Dr Sakis Lambrianides, a visiting neurologist, Dr Dionysios Vaidakis, a visiting gynaecologist, and Dr Panos Economou, a visiting general surgeon. The Medical Centre also offers general ultrasound service and blood/sample collection by Yannoukas /Vioiatriki lab onsite.

Furthermore, Ms Rianna Machen, dietician is part of the Medical Centre’s team.

The Centre organises several events throughout the year, including seminars for patients with diabetes, and webinars on how to prevent cancer. These events are organised in collaboration with the Department of Primary Care and Population Health and with the support of Assistant Professor of Public Health and Preventive Medicine, Dr Maria Cecilia Mosquera, who is a US trained Lifestyle Medicine Consultant.

We continue to expand our digital, online applications for our patients. We are currently developing telemetry monitoring of patients, following the development of a COVID-19 diagnostic tool with which patients/students can attain information on what to do if they suspect they contracted coronavirus, or if they are already a confirmed case and need to self-isolate.  In addition, we have developed a fully interactive website whereby a patient can book appointments online, including video consultations, but also attain information on upcoming events (https://www.unic.ac.cy/medicalcentre/).  We believe that both primary and secondary prevention of disease is paramount, therefore we have set up a recall system with the support of our two nurses, in order to monitor our patients with chronic diseases.

This evolution of services, expertise and technology is a great resource for the UNIC and greater community.
