The Medical School will participate with its own kiosk at the European Researcher’s Night 2019 event to be held at the Filoxenia Conference Centre in Nicosia on 27 September 2019 from 5pm to midnight.  The event is open to the public. Visitors will have the opportunity to enjoy a creative night-time event dedicated to science and research, through experiments, games, competitions and music.  More specifically, in each stand researchers will present their work and inform the public about the role and importance of research in the modern world as well as the practical applications of their research results in everyday life. At the same time, participants will have the opportunity to engage in hands-on experiments and become researchers for one night.

The Medical School is participating at the event with a kiosk titled ‘Tricking your senses’. Activities include:

  • Learn about the basic neuroscience of sensation and perception through interactive activities involving visual and somatosensory illusions
  • Explore our visual and somatosensory perception and discover the visual pathway from the eyes to higher areas of the brain, and how our different senses are combined together to make ‘sense’ of the world.
  • Understand why what you see and feel is not always true.
  • Experience all this using fun, interactive games, exercises and activities.
  • Test your knowledge and try your luck at our ‘Wheel of Neuroscience’ – get the right answer and win!
  • Browse various plastic anatomy models and learn how the brain works.
  • Dive into an illusion and take a photo to impress your friends.
