THYROIDISM, GRAVES’ DISEASE AND HYSTERIA

By Dr Antigoni Koukkoulli
Consultant Ophthalmologist | Pantheo Eye Center

Monday, 27 May 2019 | 18:00 – 19:00 | UNESCO Amphitheatre, University of Nicosia

Thyroid eye disease (TED) is an autoimmune inflammatory disorder affecting the tissues within the eye socket. Many patients experience distressing symptoms and a few develop sight-threatening complications. Patients are often young women at the peak of their career, who are very much aware of their altered appearance. Sight-loss can be prevented by appropriate management, yet it still occurs in countries with advanced healthcare systems. The talk will address the clinical presentation of TED, the investigations necessary for its diagnosis and the management steps to follow. The psychosocial implications and the importance of a multidisciplinary approach for TED patients will also be addressed.
