An interactive, light-hearted, tasty session to review the health benefits of the Traditional Mediterranean Diet and Lifestyle with suggestions on how to incorporate these into your busy lives as medical students. The session will include a demonstration and tasting of simple and delicious recipes you can make at home, and not feel guilty about eating

 

ABOUT THE SPEAKER

Patricia Moore-Pastides earned a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from the College of the Holy Cross and a Master’s degree in Public Health with a concentration in Health

Services Administration from Yale University School of Medicine.

During her career Ms Moore-Pastides has held management positions in local and county health departments, was a hospital planner and directed a worksite wellness programme for a system of hospitals. She also managed a division of an agency focused on adolescent health and was a marketing consultant to home health agencies.

Ms Moore-Pastides is an adjunct faculty member in the University of South Carolina’s College of Hospitality, Retail and Sport Management, where she teaches the course “Healthy Mediterranean Cooking.”  Ms Moore-Pastides is a member of Omicron Delta Kappa Leadership Honor Society and Delta Omega Honorary Society in Public Health.

During her 11 years as first lady of the University of South Carolina, Ms Moore-Pastides authored three books.  Her most recent,  “At Home in the Heart of the Horseshoe,” is a fascinating look at the President’s House, a historic landmark in the centre of the University’s original campus.  Her previous works are “Greek Revival: Cooking for Life” (2010) and “Greek Revival from the Garden: Growing and Cooking for Life” (2013), which promote the health benefits of the traditional Mediterranean diet.
