Profile

Despo Ierodiakonou is an Associate Professor in Family Medicine and the Associate Dean for Research at the University of Nicosia Medical School.

Dr Ierodiakonou qualified from the Medical School of the University of Crete (MD) and got a PhD in Epidemiology from University of Groningen, the Netherlands. She also holds MSc in Environmental Health and Epidemiology. As a postdoctoral fellow she has work with research groups at Harvard University, Imperial College London and the University of Crete. Her research interests include epidemiology of asthma and allergies, with focus on identifying genetic, biological and environmental factors, so we better understand the development and prognosis of allergic diseases.

As a general practitioner she aims to improving population health by focusing on primary care research of respiratory health (COPD and asthma) and on prevention and management of chronic diseases overall. Furthermore, literature review and statistical meta-analysis is another area of her expertise, as well as quantitative analysis of large-scale datasets.
