Dr Ender Volkan is Associate Professor of Microbiology at the University of Nicosia Medical School.
Dr Volkan graduated from the University of Missouri-Kansas City with a BSc in Biology (cum laude) and a minor in Chemistry. She received her PhD on Molecular Microbiology and Microbial Pathogenesis from Washington University in St. Louis, Division of Biology and Biomedical Sciences.
Her research interests include utilizing novel molecules and endemic plant extracts to study their potential antimicrobial and antibiofilm activities to help potentiate current antibiotics, create novel antimicrobial options, and develop novel anti-virulence factors against drug resistant bacteria. She is also interested in understanding virulence factor assembly by pathogenic bacteria (particularly chaperone-usher pili), their interaction with host cells and their inhibition.
