On the evening of Thursday 30 May 2019, four 2nd Year MBBS students gave a public presentation on rheumatic diseases.

The four talks were delivered as part of the Student Selected Component T-year (SSCT) projects. Topics included rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, gout and osteoporosis.  These ‘niche’ projects gave the students the opportunity to prepare a talk and to deliver it to a non-medical audience in lay terms – a skill that doctors are required to exercise throughout their careers. The students were assessed on the content of their talks as well as on their presentation skills.

The event, which was moderated by Clinical Professor Joseph Joseph, was a success.  Among the 60-plus audience were MBBS students as well as Medical School faculty and members of the public.  It took place at UNIC’s main campus, and it was supported by Rotaract and Rotary clubs, Business Professional Women Nicosia (BPW) and the American Women’s Club of Cyprus.
